My most valued career trait is resourcefulness

My most valued career trait is resourcefulness. What’s yours?

The quality I prize most in myself and others is without a doubt: resourcefulness. Particularly the think-on-your-feet, stay calm (and cheerful) brand of resourcefulness that is required for anyone working in live events. Unforeseen problems are a given, but the flavor of the problem is always a surprise – it could be logistical or aesthetic, occasionally technical or human-related. Almost always the problem is out of our control, but it is most definitely our job to resolve it.

No matter what we encounter – now with a decade plus of experience under our belt – we have the confidence to stare any problem in the face and know we will come up with a solution. We do it all the time. And nothing beats that feeling of having solved a huge problem on site, or the many more that we encounter in the lead up to an event.

The day-to-day at Romela Productions is applying our expertise for planning, project management and budgeting to create a memorable experience for our clients and their guests. Every project is a set of challenges we set out to overcome requiring creativity, communication, leadership and collaboration.

Seeing our vision come to life and smoothing the path for everyone working by our side along the way – it’s addictive. And while many people may not love the stress that comes with planning and executing a large-scale event – to us that do this work, it’s our calling. My team Nell Conway, Samm Eichmann, Nicole Neukum and I have many stories that now make us laugh, but gave us pause in the moment. Here's to creating magic from uncertainty. Here’s to all the event professionals who embrace the challenge, make it happen—and make it look easy.
